Chester’s mother sent him on an errand that soon became an adventure. She asked him to go to his auntie’s house. When he arrived, they were in an uproar over a secret revolution. A knock on the door brought Agent B into the mix. He was disguised as a toothpaste salesman. A sick squid is in the house. When placed in a cupboard it disappears. Auntie assures Chester it is in the aquarium under the house.

Eventually, Uncle William explains the house is a research facility for some special animals that live deep in the ocean. He told William that recently there had been strange chemicals and creatures in the ocean.

Just as Chester was about to go home the Agent warned them the brain suckers were on their way. It was too late the creatures had already gotten to Chester’s parents. He was reassured to know that many people live long and successful lives without their brain. Besides the teams would work hard to get his parents' brains back. The adventure continues with a secret formula, a password, a soda can and the governor.

The House on the Corner is an unusual tale. Fifth through eighth grades will love this fantasy novel. The story is not deep but is rather involved. There are lots of action and strange creatures and happening that will hold a pre-teens interest. This review is on the manuscript. I would have preferred the finished product with illustrations and chapter headings. This book will come to life with pen and ink illustrations. The House On the Corner is an entertaining read.
