Prince Thibault is a hot mess. At 32, he’s just coasting through life, with tons of parties, drugs, and alcohol, and no sense of direction of what to do with his life. His parents, putting more importance on their charity work around the world than on their only son, abdicated the throne, leaving Thibault as the sole heir to his grandmother’s crown. His only constant, other than the queen, is his assistant, Neel, an uptight man and the complete opposite of Thibault. Neel has no problem telling the prince all the ways he has messed up. In a bid to straighten his life out, Thibault and Neel embark on a campaign to rebuild Thibault’s less-than-ideal reputation and find him a purpose. The Hot Mess Prince is a great read, and I enjoyed it. I liked that it switched between the perspectives of Thibault and Neel, which made it easy to connect with both of them and the story. I loved the fictional kingdom of Ankenbrand and all it stood for. Emily Spady’s descriptions of the kingdom were so vivid that I had no trouble visualizing it; it was picturesque! I liked that the plot was not only focused on the main characters; the supporting characters (for example, Viola and Saira) were fleshed out enough to add depth to the story and make it a well-balanced read. The Hot Mess Prince is a fairly short and easy read with just enough warmth and spice that make it a memorable addition to your bookshelf.
