The Great Adventures of Peter the Fish by Glenn Thorpe is a fun little book. Peter is a small fish who lives with his parents in a pond surrounded by a beautiful forest. Although tiny in size, he is a super fast swimmer and often beats his friends in races. Peter yearns to explore the bigger lake he has heard of, and decides to go on an adventure to find it. While swimming, Peter encounters Fangus, the giant ferocious fish who threatens to eat him, but Peter outsmarts him and escapes. As he continues his journey, Peter meets Brutus and his bully brothers, an Octafish, Ellie the elephant, and other creatures who are either friendly or mean to him. All the activity has made Peter tired, and he hopes the great lake will not be too far away.
Small kids will love The Great Adventures of Peter the Fish. He is adorable and brave, showing everyone that he will not be bullied by bigger creatures because he is small. Standing up to Fangus took courage and Peter was scared, but he knew it was wrong to be bullied and he defended himself. Glenn Thorpe wrote a delightful story that also contains a valuable lesson about being friendly to others. The illustrations were nicely sketched, colourful, and blended well with the characters they portrayed. The story is creative and I like the writing style with its upbeat rhyming dialogue. The book is a very short one, and is wonderfully written.
