Josephine, or Jo, will do anything for her sister, Isobel, and anything is what she is doing by meeting with a mesmerist. The Graveyard of Forgotten Dreams is set in the late 1800s. Jo and her sister have survived the Orphan Trains, but that is something Jo is determined to keep hidden at this point. Now her sister is in a wheelchair and refusing to eat, and Jo will do whatever it takes to help her, even meeting with someone the medical profession doesn't approve of. Dr. Radnor has his own secrets, but he is intrigued by Jo and her sister, and he is determined to get to the bottom of her secrets. His plan to take them to the country and Glen House ends up head over heels when they arrive to find a convention of spiritualists already in residence. Someone is using people for their own means, and Jo and Isobel could be caught in the middle. Author K.C. Greer weaves a story that takes until the final pages for you to actually understand the whole picture. So much is interwoven together and hidden that you don't really know who is the villain and who is the hero.

The Graveyard of Forgotten Dreams is set not too long after the Civil War, during a time when spiritualists and mesmerists were doing a booming trade among the people who couldn't find answers in traditional medicine. While some were legit, most were fakes preying on the downtrodden and taking advantage of them. Author K.C. Greer's novel pits someone of true talent against a fake in the lives of two women who have already endured more than most their age. The story touches on the Orphan Trains of the period, and the problems that they encountered. Even though the original idea was for good, it did not turn out that way for most that ended up on those trains. This story has lots of layers. I found it to be interesting reading and something that I could recommend to other readers who enjoy historical fiction.
