The Frost Bloom Garden by Romarin Demetri is the second in the Supernatural London Underground series. Romarin has settled into a comfort zone after the obstacles she faced when arriving in London. She finally feels at home with her housemates, bonded over everything they’ve gone through. Things seem to be looking up, in a grim kind of way, for Romarin when Talia offers her a job investigating murders related to the supernatural. Tasked with finding the killer and keeping the supernatural away from the public, she has to work with a nosy human paranormal investigator. She supposes it could be worse. Little does she know, everything for the supernatural of London is getting worse, especially for her friends, but Romarin will do whatever it takes to protect them.
The Frost Bloom Garden is an excellent follow-up to A Mirror among Shattered Glass. The way Romarin Demetri writes makes it feel like you’re on an adventure with friends. It’s primarily from Romarin’s perspective, but her friends have their moments when the events follow them, allowing readers a chance to get to know characters that are harder to read like Travis or aloof like Yves. They’re a ragtag group, but they’re so lovable it’s easy to see what makes them heroic. Each of them has an ability (and a dark and tragic past), but that’s not what defines them or makes them relatable. Audin is an empath whose very blood (and saliva) is toxic, but he’s also a guiding force for the housemates. Yves is a telepath and is aloof, but he has a big heart and is just utterly adorable. Travis has a temper (and enjoys drinking), but he also comes through when it counts and has a big brotherly vibe to him. Kit has a dark presence trying to take her over, but the real her is sincere. The Frost Bloom Garden is funny, charming, and endearing. Perfect for anyone who loves vampires, fairies, and London.
