The Dragon's Tear Chronicles: Of Dark Ones and Dragons by Myrica Moss is an epic fantasy where tensions run high as the balance of power is shattered. The Dark Ones once roamed the world freely, contaminating others and destroying the balance of life. But they were banished by the goddess Saressa to a shadow world. A seal was placed over the rift between the shadow world and the world of people so that the Dark Ones would never come back. Danior was made the guardian of the seal for some years, but that all changed and suddenly the seal started weakening. There was only one way to protect their world from the Dark Ones, and it was to find a young gypsy girl to make the sacrifice and close the rift once again. With the help of Ramos, Danior has to find a suitable gypsy girl before the rift breaks, and the Dark Ones take over. Can they make it happen before it is too late?
The world-building is phenomenal in The Dragon's Tear Chronicles: Of Dark Ones and Dragons. Author Myrica Moss has designed an intricate world of magic and gods. The constant threat of the Dark Ones and the struggles to stop them before they arrive allowed me to invest in the story and read on. Danior was the guardian of the seal, but he was also a guardian for Twila who was thrust into a situation she was not prepared for. Natta’s back story was heartbreaking, but it set the tone for Twila’s story as well. I admit, I trusted neither Danior nor Ramos, but that was before I read on and understood the author’s plan for them. The author had me guessing; I could not figure out what would happen next. The twists and turns in the narrative made the story even more entertaining for me. I cannot wait for the next novel in the series to find out what happens to Danior, Twila, and the rest of the characters.
