Guardians of the Worlds, The Descendant by Ally Capraro is a delightful fantasy/sci-fi romance that begins with the evil ruler of Xemlix, Slith, conferring with his assistant, Tiluk. His plan is to invade Earth through a dimension portal and cause the inhabitants to lose themselves to unbridled fear. Standing in his way are the beings from Lapo, who use all of their positive influences to thwart Lord Slith's plans and send his army back to Xemlix. Ava Davenport is a journalist who is getting married to a handsome businessman named Barry, that is until she smells another woman's perfume on him. So she gets her best friend Chloe to tempt him. When he takes the bait, Ava breaks off the engagement. She begins taking advice from a man in her dreams, named Meldrick. He begins teaching her about "The Stream," and tapping into it. From then on a whirlwind of events begin taking place. He tells Ava that he has been watching over her throughout her whole life, and then takes her on a life altering tour of Lapo.
Ally Capraro does an absolutely stellar job of telling this breathtaking Cinderella story. She very cleverly integrates fantasy, science fiction, and paranormal into a romantic adventure to make this compelling tale leap right out of its pages. All of her characters are well developed and believable. Their faults, fears and doubts are ones that I am sure many readers will identify with. It seems to me that Ally has used the philosophy of Dale Carnegie's "How to Make Friends, and Influence People." Guardians of the Worlds, The Descendant was enjoyable and hard for me to put down. With a grand variety of heroes, villains, and surprises, Ms. Capraro has left the ending open with an enticing beginning for the next installment. Outstanding!
