Rainbows are always so bright and cheerful but wait, in The Colors of Kindness, Panda meets a sad, gray rainbow. Rainbow’s colors get brighter with kindness, but she needs Panda’s help to make that happen. Panda is more than willing to help and lists several colors of kindness that will brighten up Rainbow. Panda starts with the virtue of being kind and suggests some simple things that kids can do, like smiling or sharing toys. Each time Panda shares an idea, Rainbow’s colors start to return. Panda ends his list with Be Magnificent, which is exactly what Rainbow has become. Author Kristen Bellamy has included some questions that adults can share with kids to extend the story and help kids make the virtues their own.
Kristen Bellamy has created a sweet story about something most kids love; rainbows. Panda Bear is a charming guide that presents each attribute clearly. Sometimes it’s not easy being patient or being fair, but it feels so right when you are. Michael Vatcher’s illustrations are eye-catching and filled with all the colors of the rainbow. Kids will enjoy watching Rainbow’s colors become brighter as the story progresses. Parents are often looking for a gentle way to teach their kids virtues and The Colors of Kindness does this well. Kristen Bellamy’s short rhymes get to the essence of the virtue in a kid-friendly way. She has also included a repeated refrain throughout that will build kids' self-esteem. The Colors of Kindness is an enjoyable story that will help kids positively navigate their world.
