The Breaking by KS Marsden is the third book in the Northern Witch series. Mark thought things were looking up when his Nana agreed to teach him witchcraft and he finally got to call Damian his boyfriend. Then Damian decided the best way to keep Mark safe was to leave him altogether. To find his boyfriend, Mark turns to his friends to make amends and travels to London where he finds more trouble than he bargains for when he enters the territory of dark magic witches. Saving Damian is easier said than done when his boyfriend doesn't seem to appreciate his help and has one condition to returning home. Damian will only return if he and Mark don't get back together. The demon possessing him is getting stronger and seems to have a plan in store for Mark. But Mark has his own plan and he'll need all the help that he can get if he's going to pull it off and save Damian once and for all.
The story picks up with Mark facing the fact that Damian has taken off again. He needs the help of his friends more than ever but after recent events, he has an apology to make to his best friend Harry. His friends are an important part of who Mark is as they're his support system even when his life descends into chaos. The story weaves in a new element with the addition of London when Mark chases after Damian in an attempt to bring him back home. London is home to witches that are highly territorial and dangerous. His quest continues to revolve around his magic studies and his determination to free Damian of the demon that possesses him. The story weaves in Mark's love life which has taken a hit and gotten a lot more complicated with Damian not wanting to put him at risk and his surprising friendship with the also-possessed Eadric. The story hints at a possible love triangle as even though Mark loves Damian, he has a spark with Eadric that starts to catch fire. KS Marsden breathes a fresh voice into a coming-of-age story through a modern-day teenage witch trying to figure out his place in the world of witches and navigating his first relationship in his small town. The Breaking is charming and humorous with a story that delivers a delightful journey with witchcraft, love, relationships, friendships, and facing your demons.
