Two people from opposite worlds collide in fiery passion in The Bayou Never Tells by Chelley St Clair. On Silas Montgomery’s sixteenth birthday, he is placed on a path where he has little choice but to do unspeakable acts in order to protect the family he never knew he had. He grows up carrying this burden until the summer his little brother brings home his best friend. Ivy Summers, on the other hand, grew up in privilege, but still lacks the ability to make her own decisions due to her family’s standing in society. Their antagonistic interactions blossom into something deeper as Silas breaks his own rules for the younger socialite. However, when those with grudges against Silas catch wind of his new-found weakness, they’ll do anything they can to hurt him.

A romance with darker elements, The Bayou Never Tells by Chelley St Clair presented hope in the face of adversity. I liked Silas’ character, especially his softer sides. I felt Ivy to be naïve at times, but she also came into her own. Their chemistry was undeniable, and they really helped each other grow. I would point out that there is a scene that might be triggering for readers involving a kidnapping, but it is tastefully done, focusing mainly on the emotions of the character as opposed to what is happening to them. Overall, I would be interested in reading more from Chelley St Clair, as well as finding out what happens to some of the minor characters. Well worth the read for romantic suspense fans who like a bit of edge to their books.
