The American Dream: Door to Door Millionaires by Dwight Treadwell, Sr is the author's story of success and a self-help guide for all those he would describe as an average Joe or Jane. Treadwell has compiled this book and filled it with the traditional methods he's used to earn upwards of $200,000 per year consistently for the past five years by selling DIRECTV Satellite Systems, door to door. He begins with a backstory that starts with his youth and a precocious, yet driven nature that flourished into a business mindset from a tender age. From there he outlines the model of his success, with the addition of addressing the five different types of customers, how to determine who in the house makes the decisions, and overcoming the pitfalls that one might encounter (competitive jealousy, inclement weather, etc).
The American Dream: Door to Door Millionaires by Dwight Treadwell, Sr is something of a breath of fresh air among most of the leadership books currently available. It harks back to a time when people were the ones selling to people, unlike today where online shopping and overseas call centers are the new normal. Treadwell has it right when he acknowledges that this is still what people really want, and he made a lucrative living by providing this...and he's ready to teach you how to also. Even more than that, Treadwell addresses the importance of cultivating a relationship and not letting your customers down (for example, he always answers his phone). I can see this being applied even outside the market of door-to-door sales and hope this book finds its way into the hands of those searching for a sustainable way to be a business success.
