Let's meet the Germie Germlins, the tiny nasty monsters who lived on a planet far away called Virion in the storybook The Amazing Zoe Defeats The Germie Germlins by Valene Campbell. They were at their happiest when they were able to touch anyone or any living thing and they would make people, animals, and even trees sick. Gerry Germlins called a meeting one day to tell the Germlins of Virion the big news. His idea was to go and live with the humans so that they would become stronger and slowly take over Planet Earth and the entire galaxy. They all got into their spaceship AMINO and made their way to Planet Earth.
The Amazing Zoe Defeats The Germie Germlins by Valene Campbell is educational and stresses the importance of washing one's hands often for 20 seconds throughout the day to stay protected from germs. The Germie Germlins realized that the people of Niceville had found their weakness and they decided to go back to Virion. The illustrations are lively and give clarity to the concept, making it easy for young readers to understand. Zoe's character has been well-defined and her presence of mind is admirable. Tutors and parents can use the book for storytelling and read-aloud sessions in classrooms and at home to help children understand the importance of washing their hands and quarantining, especially during these Covid times.
