Brenda Martin came up with the idea of the book while trying to teach the alphabet to a kindergarten boy who had difficulties with learning.
She continued using her techniques with other learning-challenged students and she saw marked, consistent improvement.
Over time, she honed her teaching techniques into the methods described in this book. Association memory triggered comprehension for concepts so well that students seemed to finally have a "light bulb on" experience to store information into their long term memory for easier retrieval.
She spent her career teaching students dealing with different levels of learning problems using creative and effective methods.

The Alphabet: Learned Quickly and Easily is a guide to pronouncing the letters of alphabet, as well as how to draw them. Teacher and author Brenda G. Martin has developed a method for teaching the alphabet that teachers and parents can use to help children learn the letters and the sounds they make. For example, the letter C can sound like a K or S as in cow or cent. And what if you had the letter H after a C; you get a ch sound, as in children. English is not easy to learn when one letter can sound differently. Even the letter G sounds different in the word goat or gee! This book includes short vowels and long vowels like the letter E: egg or eat.
Brenda G. Martin is a teacher and has spent her career helping children learn the alphabet so they can learn to read. In this book, Martin shares her experiences of working with children who found learning difficult because of economics, dyslexia, learning disabilities, or required special education. Her book combines auditory, visual, kinesthetic, and memory training to help students and children learn to read. Schools, libraries, and homes can benefit from The Alphabet: Learned Quickly and Easily. If teachers or parents read one letter of the alphabet each day, then children could look for things that start with that letter. They could play a game of I Spy and, together, they can make learning fun.
I learned a lot from the book The Alphabet Learned Quickly and Easily and I believe it would be a welcomed addition to libraries, schools, and homes because it explains how to pronounce each letter and gives examples of it. Since author Brenda Martin has taught phonics for several years, teachers will appreciate that the lesson plans are included and they explain how to teach it to students. I liked how this book shows the difference between short vowels like the i in igloo or the long i in the word night and how your mouth would look different pronouncing them. I benefited from reading it and I think teachers and English students will, too. I loved the explanations and the excellent methods of how to teach it to others so they understand.
