The Alien Apostle and the Great Conspiracy by Bart Peters is based on four college-age boys who are preparing to enter the mission field. On the day of their departure, as they are getting ready to leave, a chain of events places Jeremy, one of the boys, in an adventure that will shake his world. A door miraculously appears and Jeremy steps through it. He can't imagine the bewilderment, danger, and life-altering events that await him on the other side of the door. One thing is certain, Jeremy's life will never be the same after this step is taken.
If one word describes this book it is thought-provoking. It wasn't a gripping adventure that I expected when I first started reading. Neither was it a descriptive story that has you picturing the events in your mind. Instead, it is a theological study in a novel form. I had trouble putting it down, not because of the excitement, but because of the strangeness and interest woven throughout the story. When I wasn't reading it, the book occupied my thoughts and I am sure I will consider the book for days and weeks to come.
The book has very few descriptions and most are discussions between characters. I did have a bit of difficulty grasping some parts of the theology. However, in the end I feel that the book makes an excellent point and one that is rarely, if ever, considered. I would not recommend this book for everyone. Having said that, if you are a person that takes faith seriously in any manner, if you desire the truth from religion, if you are able to debate through difficult topics calmly, The Alien Apostle and the Great Conspiracy is definitely for you.
