The Adventures of Uncle Billy and Ross by Solon Phillips is a pleasant, uplifting read. This story takes the reader on a series of experiences that young Ross is having in his life and brings in the wisdom and insight of Uncle Billy to help shape Ross’s perspective. Lessons covered include gratitude, perspective, appreciation, the influence of people in our lives, attitude, and much more. Each lesson is brought to life by the vibrancy of the writing and storytelling of this book. Ross is painted as an intelligent, energetic young boy who loves and respects Uncle Billy, enabling him to absorb the wisdom of the man while being free to ask questions. Uncle Billy is funny and full of practical insights into life. Together, the exchange between the two characters is charming, witty, and sure to make the reader smile.
I enjoyed every chapter of The Adventures of Uncle Billy and Ross by Solon Phillips. A book that highlights important life lessons can be quite tedious if not written with an experienced hand, but this story avoids the common pitfalls. This book is fun, surprising, humorous, and written very well. The relationship between Ross and Uncle Billy supports the organization and flow of the book, allowing for a pleasant verbal exchange throughout each chapter. I love how the author uses the daily experiences of young Ross to teach important life lessons. Each experience was something many readers could relate to or, at the very least, understand. This book is a valuable read and I look forward to more of the same from this author.
