Tender Cuts is a collection of short stories written by Jayne Martin, compiled into an anthology. The short stories span no more than a page each, some in narrative form and a few in a poem-like form. The short stories all have one thing in common; the heartaches of everyday people. The short stories reveal how people face pain and heartbreak for many different reasons unique to their own situation and how they perceive and cope with their pain. Illustrated across the book's pages is a journey to seeing other people's problems, showing that everyone's life is far from easy, even when it seems picturesque from the outside.
Tender Cuts, written by Jayne Martin and illustrated by Janice Whitby, is an excellent array of short stories with various scenarios from many angles of life. I enjoyed reading the struggles of everyday characters that are so like what people face today. I felt that some of the stories hit close to the heart, making me feel less alone when my day did not go as planned. Tender Cuts is a well-written outlet to shed some light on everyday troubles that can weigh a person down from time to time. I also enjoyed the simplistic illustrations throughout the collection that reflected well with each story. I would definitely recommend this book for those who seek a little heart to heart with the characters of Tender Cuts.
