Sylvia's Itch by Robin Adolphs is a charming story of Sylvia the sugar glider who lives with her parents and eight brothers and sisters in a cozy little nest in the hollow of a tree in the Australian bush. Sylvia has everything going for her, but one day she gets an itch at the back and she cannot reach it. She tries out many ways to scratch the itch, but is unable to do so. Sylvia and her best friend Penelope try to get to the bottom of the itch and set out in search of a cure for it. Will they finally be able to find a cure for Sylvia's itch?
The book conveys a beautiful message to young readers about friendship and problem solving. The illustrations are bright and they add fluidity to the scenes. The pictures also give the characters a personality of their own and breathe life into them. It's a good book for parents and grandparents to use as a bedtime story book and it also makes a good story for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. Sylvia's character is adorable and, apart from the message the story conveys, it also introduces kids to new concepts, ideas and words. Reading the book is a learning experience. Stories with messages and new concepts are perfect to read out to kids as they make learning and teaching easy. Sylvia's Itch teaches kids a whole lot of new things related to the word as the story progresses.
