Switching Teams: What Coming Out Later in Life Taught Me About Love, Conquering Fear and Accepting Change by Dawn Elizabeth Waters is a heart wrenching, yet heartwarming tale of a woman who took a step and came out to the world. Admitting that you are different from other people and yet still the same person is a difficult task. Dawn Elizabeth Waters did an amazing job.
Dawn is a 39-year-old woman, married for 20 years, and a mother of three. Some would call her world perfect, but it all came crashing down when she came out and told the world she was into girls. Getting divorced was liberating, and falling in love with her best friend of 10 years was even more so. However, life had some more challenges to throw at her. Only this time, she was stronger, sharper, and more confident because she was finally who she was supposed to be.
Some people simply have the gift of writing and Dawn is one of them. After reading this book, I have the feeling that I already know Dawn. She is a strong woman and that showed in the story. The characters were really awesome. There were many deep moments, emotional moments, and some moments were simply “awwww”. You get the picture. This is certainly a book that everyone should read, because it will teach you a lot.
