Suzi by C.J.L. Marr starts with a small family in a remote area, barely eking out a subsistence, when the father returns with a big gold nugget. The nugget is their passport to prosperity! They set out for the town to sell it, riding in their cart pulled along by their old mare. Along the way, the narrative introduces the reader to a planet with two moons where they live. Starting with a reprehensible incident en route to the town, one of the protagonists manages to escape, only to be transported into a nightmare setup in a harsh world of violence, death, a hard pornographic existence, unimaginably terrible experiences, and a complete absence of the finer emotions of life.
The alien environment in the book is Earth-like with space and fantasy elements and its fair share of 'bad guys.' There is a clever plot which allows people in the institution - where the main protagonist Suzi is incarcerated pending adulthood - to sexually exploit all the girls with her, in a most reprehensible manner for gain. The scenes flow smoothly from one to another, listing a series of events and escapades across other planets. The interesting and creative plot builds builds up swiftly while maintaining a strong level of suspense. However, some of the highly descriptive scenes of unnatural sex may be offensive to some people.
