What is success? What does success mean for you? Is it being the best all-round in whatever you choose to do? Or, is it trying to be the best you can be? Success really isn’t defined by high-income earners, high-profile jobs, or writing best-selling novels. Success is more how you view your role in life, how you perceive your goals, and how you can make the best of what you have. When I think of my own family history, I always remember my great-grandfather who was a high school janitor. He did his job with care and pride, he served his country during the Great War, and, when he passed away at the age of ninety, he was written up in the local paper for all his achievements, even as a high school janitor. Success comes from within: it's how we perceive ourselves and project our talents. Success is what makes us strong.
Michael W. Jackson’s book, Success Is Within You (4th Edition), is a thorough examination of the complex concept of success. He begins his discourse with his own perspective on the meaning of success and how it reflects in his life. Then he challenges the reader to define success as it pertains to them. Every chapter is another step toward understanding and appreciating the true meaning of success and how it can be related to our beliefs. The American treatise, In God We Trust, imparts our intrinsic connection to infinity and beyond – a mere starting point to the true meaning of success. It’s good (and important) to dream and to even dream big, but dreams are only a starting point on the road to success. As the author emphasizes repeatedly, we have to remember that we are all great, and we are all programmed for success. The author's work is well organized and succinctly presented with substantial examples from his life as well as others. The bottom line, he continually points out, is that success comes from within us. His closing words are: “Have a dream and love relentlessly that dream to the point of doing whatever it takes, and you will see your dream manifested.” That is the meaning of success!
