Peter McFadden is an unemployed computer graphics designer. Peter is a very cynical man. He  invents a “fortune telling” machine and calls it, Horokinetics. He never expects anyone to take it seriously. He is surprised when Horokinetics becomes the next fad. He is the latest celebrity  New Age Guru. What began as a prank places him in the middle of a combat zone between a scheming cult leader and a corrupt conglomerate. His world is suddenly spinning out of control.

Stunt Road by Gregory Mose has a unique and relevant plot. The plot is deep and thought provoking. Mose cleverly demonstrates humanities desperation to believe in something, anything. Then there is the corporate side of the plot. Some people will do anything for money. The corporation was willing to exploit Horokinetics to extract money from believers. The idea for this book came from Mose’s conjecture on the faith in astrology. Parts of this book seemed contrived, such as when Peter just happens to meet the man on horseback.

The character of Peter was well developed, however he was unlikable. Mose is a master at dialogue. The writing style was animated. My favorite part of this book is the way it made me think. I pondered the depth of the plot long after I laid the book down. Stunt Road is a clever, sarcastic, engaging venture into the dark world of commercial mysticism. I’ve often been skeptical of TV “preachers.” Perhaps my skepticism hasn’t been so misplaced.
