Erynn continues to grow in her special abilities that allow her to search for the way to stop the threat to her world. "Fire and Ice: Storm of Arranon" smoothly picks up the unfolding events begun in Book 1 as Erynn becomes more in tune with the planet’s guardians. Strange deaths occur and as the Anbas try to uncover the killer, Erynn is drawn deeper into exploring the ancient history of this world she has come to love. Unique gifts and a connection to the living spirit of the planet allow Erynn to travel to regions only thought to exist as legends. She encounters underground dwellers and is able to convince them of the disaster that is threatening their existence. In turn, they teach her secrets that will help her in her quest to find and defeat the evil that grows stronger each and every day. With the help of a boy who has a special ability to read the ancient language, Erynn comes close to putting an end to the forces intent on seizing power.
Robyn Sheahan has continued her exciting tale in "Fire and Ice" with the same rich development of the fantasy world that is real on planet Arranon. There is a smooth blending of the two worlds – over the surface and under the surface – which, although fantastic, is quite believable and natural. Plot twists and new characters add to the intrigue and keep the reader wondering how everything is going to turn out. It is hard not to cheer as Erynn achieves another victory but just as difficult not to feel the fear as new dangers arise.
