Spirral is the penultimate novel in The CORT Chronicles trilogy by David D. Bernstein. Held captive in CORT Corporation's Remake Academy 2, eleven-year-old Andy wakes as a prisoner listening to the taunts of Mrs. Weed. But his torture is short-lived as the members of the resistance, Wendy, and Andy's older brother Zack, soon arrive to free him and the other children, destroying the academy in the process. Amongst the freed captives is Andy's newfound friend, John. After a mysterious woman named Martha shows up unexpectedly, Andy and his friends travel to the Ice Temple to train his dormant powers on her advice. Meanwhile, an abomination named the Spirral is created by CORT Corp. The group must now travel to CORT Central deep in the Dark Swamp and use their gifts to destroy the Spirral.
Fans of comic books are bound to enjoy David D. Bernstein's action-packed novella. The CORT Chronicles is a sci-fi adventure saga that follows two brothers, Andy and Zack, as they find themselves embroiled in world-changing events. Spirral is the second book in the series. It continues Andy and Zack's journey as they discover new powers and assemble a group capable of facing the dangerous CORT Corporation. The plot moves at a blistering pace, and you find yourself glued to the pages as Berstein never leaves an inch of wasted space. The chemistry and friendship between Andy, Zack, Wendy, and John provide the narrative thrust to the story. If you're a fan of sci-fi adventure sagas, I suggest The CORT Chronicles.
