Sophie and Scottie’s Adventures of Sweet Tooth Rock by Cindy C. Murray is a creative fantasy written for the 8 to 12 years age group. Sophie and Scottie, non-identical eleven-year-old twins, have embarked on another exciting and sometimes scary adventure. They live on the Shear Heaven sheep ranch with their parents, their dog Molly and horses Starburst and Firefly. When the adventure begins, a major storm hits the ranch, but with some magical help the sheep and other animals are saved. Sophie and Scottie are careful to hide their magic frame with crystals on it. They also keep the Maptrixter hidden as it often shows them exactly where trouble is brewing and their help is needed. Aunt Jillie and Uncle Drake are part of the magical quests.
Too often, books for this age range are very simplistic and do not capture the youngster’s imagination – but it's not the case with this book. The writing itself is highly skilled with an easy flow from one magical scene to another. The author also delineates the unique personality of each girl, which has to be affirming for twins of the same gender. The personalities of Aunt Jillie and Uncle Drake are also an interesting component to the tale. Each scene – and there are many – is beautifully described and can easily be imagined by the young reader. This is author Cindy C. Murray's third book in this series about these caring and intelligent twin girls. Sophie and Scottie’s Adventures of Sweet Tooth Rock would be a wonderful gift from parents or grandparents for young readers!
