Sir Princess Petra's Mission: The Pen Pieyu Adventures, Book 3 is an epic fantasy and adventure novel for children written by Diane Mae Robinson and illustrated by Michael Bermundo. When Princess Petra is summoned to the royal throne room to appear before her father, the King, she quickly got the idea that the newly enlarged Royal Rule Book and the grin on her father’s face meant she had trouble. Indeed, there was a new royal seal-of-approval mission that she must complete under pain of losing not only her knighthood, but that of Bograt, the bog witch who had been knighted after an earlier royal mission. She is, at least, able to wrest a legal concession from her father on the part of the order that mandates that she travel unaccompanied to the hitherto unexplored land of the Boogy Gobees by citing a previous sealed rule that a knight’s steed and any other knights of the realm would accompany a questing knight on any mission. So, accompanied by Bograt and her dragon friend and steed, Snarls, Sir Petra sets out for unknown parts to capture and bring back a car-panther.

Diane Mae Robinson’s epic fantasy and adventure tale for children, Sir Princess Petra's Mission, is the third book in this original and highly acclaimed series about a princess who’d really rather be a knight. However, readers new to the series will find enough background information in the accompanying synopses of Books One and Two to enable them to enjoy this book on its own. I’d be somewhat surprised, however, if those new readers don’t find themselves planning to read the previous books after finishing this one. Sir Princess Petra is a brilliant role model for both girls and boys who may feel somewhat out of the mainstream with their goals, attitudes and ambitions, and she fulfills that function marvelously. Robinson’s series is also a perfect introduction to epic fantasy for children that is never patronizing and always filled with the imagination, action and adventure that make epic fantasy work so well. Michael Bermundo’s illustrations bring Petra and Snarls to life so well. I loved seeing the variety of expressions on both their faces in the illustrations presented throughout the book. Sir Princess Petra's Mission: The Pen Pieyu Adventures, Book 3 is most highly recommended.

If you have a young reader who is reading beginner novels and loves an adventure, please consider Sir Princess Petra’s Mission by Diane Mae Robinson. This imaginative book is the third in a series; the author includes synopses of Book 1 and Book 2. Sir Princess Petra is a strong-willed princess who lives in the Kingdom of Pen Pieyu. She has already achieved the status of knighthood, much to her parents’ chagrin. The King wrote a new rule in his royal rule book – Petra must go to the Kingdom of Boogy Gobees to capture a car-panther, in order to preserve her knighthood. Snarls, her dragon, and Bograt, the bog witch, join her on this frightening adventure. They have never traveled to this kingdom previously, and they have no idea what a car-panther is.

This fantasy tale is complete with interesting characters, delightful dialogue and important life lessons for children. Petra demonstrates the importance of goals, but she also sets aside her personal goal of retaining her knighthood, rather than bringing danger to the car-panthers. The car-panthers value trees and do not use wood in their buildings, but Snarls adds his special talents to save their castle. While Petra supports the car-panthers’ different views, she challenges her parents’ beliefs in a respectful manner. Diane Mae Robinson is able to interweave such substantive values with fun and lightheartedness in her novel, Sir Princess Petra’s Mission. In the last section of the book, Ms. Robinson informs parents that her next endeavor will be teaching grammar to children – that promises to be an innovative approach!

In a lovely and fun adventure story for children, Sir Princess Petra's Mission: Book Three of The Pen Pieyu Adventures by author Diane Mae Robinson, readers are again treated to a story in the life of the brave Princess Petra. This little girl has already attained her knighthood for her acts of bravery and her talents. Her parents, the king and queen, are none too pleased with her knighthood, and her father devises more rules to keep her from further adventures. Her parents are determined to turn Petra into a "real" princess, and are willing to do just about anything to make that happen. Will they succeed and will Sir Princess Petra have to give up her adventures? Or will the king and queen come to realize the importance of letting their daughter be who she wants to be? You'll have to read the book to find out!

I very much enjoyed Sir Princess Petra's Mission. Author Diane Mae Robinson has done a wonderful job in creating a fun, energetic and adventurous female character that her readers will love reading about. I appreciated her underlying message that girls should be able to do what they wish, and not follow gender stereotypical roles. Yet that message is not pounded into the reader's head; it just comes naturally with the story-telling arc. This story is well paced for a child reader, and parents will certainly enjoy the positive messages of the book. I highly recommend Sir Princess Petra's Mission, and look forward to reading more from author Diane Mae Robinson in the very near future!

The third sequel to Diane Mae Robinson's The Pen Pieyu Adventures, Sir Princess Petra's Mission resumes when Petra and her friends, Snarls and Bograt, showcase their new talents after returning from a second mission abroad in accordance with another of her capricious father's rules. Now, her father, the King, has instated yet another rule in the royal rule book: she must capture and deliver the fabled car-panther or her knighthood will be revoked, with the same fate to be dealt to her friends. To complete the mission successfully and retain her knighthood, she must dauntlessly travel into the uncharted land of the Boogy Gobees. Along Princess Petra's journey, she learns of the misunderstandings that can easily arise between cultures, and to accept those practices and beliefs that may differ from hers. Above all, Robinson's Petra sets an admirable example for girls to break free from the rules which society may impose on them and become whoever they want to be.

If children are searching for a story with a headstrong female character and a light-hearted humorous tale full of adventure, Diane Mae Robinson's Sir Princess Petra's Mission is the answer. With Sir Princess Petra's quirky sidekicks, Snarls and Bograt, young readers learn the lesson of the importance of teamwork. Besides Petra's friends' snappy, comedic commentary is Robinson's satirical use of names and situations that resemble a Dickensian world geared for children. The book's fast pace whisks the reader immediately away into a highly imaginative and fanciful land of medieval-esque creatures and characters. Furthermore, Sir Princess Petra encourages children, specifically girls, that gender-prescribed roles are meant to be broken and that obstacles can always be overcome in order to achieve one's dream.

Sir Princess Petra's Mission is a children’s book by author Diane Mae Robinson, and the third book in The Pen Pieyu Adventures. The unconventional heroine of this delightful book is Sir Princess Petra, a young lady who has attained her knighthood despite her parents’ wishes for her to be a proper, pretty princess, essentially purposeless outside of this role. Petra defies her parents yet again by getting around the royal rule book and enjoying expressing who she really is. Snarls the dragon and Bograt the bog witch accompany Petra on this journey, where it soon becomes apparent that the King may have set Petra an impossible task, one which risks her knighthood if she is unable to complete it: the capture of the illusive car-panther.

It is always wonderful to read a story where gender rules are flouted and unlikely heroes come to the fore. Sir Princess Petra's Mission presents Petra as a rousing heroine whose liking for typically masculine adventures does not inhibit her own femininity. Her story is told with light hearted humour, excitement and highly readable action sequences, accompanied by vivid characters who leap off the pages. The synopses of books one and two are very useful for catching up on Petra’s previous adventures, and the illustrations bring the characters to life even more. Diane Mae Robinson has created an engaging tale in which both children and adults will find value, filled with happiness, friendship and individuality, plus a few dragons and swamps for good measure. Highly recommended to adventurous young readers everywhere.

There is a statement in this book that speaks of pure wisdom! Let me just give a little summary of what happened. The king had just made a new rule which was aimed at preventing his daughter from continuing his duty as the only princess Knight in the Kingdom. The new rule sealed by him was totally unfair to his daughter, but as the king, he could do as he wishes, even make new rules. The daughter (Petra) didn’t like what her father had done one bit, and to crown it all, the king insists on the new rule that she had to go alone on the adventure which he had just written in the royal rule book.
Instead of Petra to respond by shouting at her father and the likes, she decided to pick up the royal rule book which her father had written before and flipped to a page which states and I quote: “All knights may choose their own steed. All steeds will willingly accompany their knights.
All knights will stick together.” She won the battle over her father at that instance by her father’s own rule. This shows the importance of knowledge. In this age where kids are too tired to go to school or study, we need to be able to let them know the importance of studying. If Petra had not read the Royal rule book, she wouldn’t have known the way to win over an injustice. She was able to use the opportunity to enter the Kings library without restrictions wisely. Our children can learn such wonderful lessons from Petra, and I know that it would only be to their benefit and not their detriment. This is a way by which we can influence them the right way without stress. When they learn valuable lessons from their favorite characters, they would end up becoming the children we admire.

How do you respond when something totally unfair happens to you? How would we want our children to respond to instances whereby a school teacher that dislikes them decides to give them meaningless tests just because they want to see our kids fail, or several other things that may happen? The truth is that those with authority would try their best to exert these authorities for their own benefits, and it may be to our own detriment or to those of our children, and we need to be able to respond appropriately to those instances. The best way to fight injustice is by justice; unfairness, by fairness; hatred, with love.

How does Petra responds when her father, the king made a decree in the land aimed at demoralizing her and eventually leading her to give up her title as the only Princess knight? Instead of giving up, she embraced the challenge, and by so doing, brought about a dawn of peace, joy and happiness to her kingdom in the end. This book teaches that we should never give up even when people are unnecessarily unfair to us. Life isn't fair, and I believe our children would learn valuable lessons as these by reading this book. It is more than a storybook! it teaches invaluable lessons our children would benefit from.

I received an special copy from its publishers in exchange of an honest review. I really enjoyed this fast phased children's tale. As a loving mother I find Sir Princess Petra's Mission (The Pen Pieyu Adventures, book 3) by Diane Mae Robinson a highly interesting fun tale and I highly recommend this book for all the children. Time to time illustrative pictures are added so that the tales gets more interesting and understandable. The language used is simple and any one can easily understand it. I got to say that I have read only the third book and I have not read the first two books of this series. Yet I easily understood this third book whole alone after quickly going through the attached synopsis of first two books. I could quickly level up with the flow and it provided me the necessary background information in understanding this tale to its whole depth.

Knight princess Petra's mission along with Snarls-dragon is full of fun, heroism, enjoyment and excitement and my kid loves this composition.A must read for all the children.

This is a beautiful book for children. One of the key things I look for in a book is what I stand to gain. I ask myself what the book is all about. Why should my child read this book? What does he or she stand to gain be reading it? I believe when we think about issues like this, it would guide us in purchasing the right book for our children.

If you followed this book from the first series, it is a book about a princess that desires to be more than who she is meant to be. She desired to be a knight, a position no one has ever been able to get to in the kingdom. What better way to inspire our kids than to have them read books that inspire them to be more than what the society has labeled them to be. I believe that our kids are made for more, they are meant to break several limitations in life in other to be who they are always meant to be. This book is the perfect read to inspire them.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said and I quote; Don’t go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path…and leave a trail” I believe that we want our children to be outliers, and become adults that would transform their generation for good. Our children will learn from the wonderful adventure of Princess Petra that they can create their own paths in life, and be who they want to be and not what the society has described them as. They can break free from every form of limitations in their lives. When they have faith in themselves, they would realize that the path to their place of destiny isn't as difficult as it may seem. Sometimes, everything isn't as it seems just has Princess Petra discovered in this wonderful journey. Get the book for your children, and you will be glad you did!

Enjoy the read.

This is a tale, or rather, a fairy tale, about courage, dignity, honesty and self-esteem. This is also a story for children and parents who want to learn how better to grow up their children. I am discussing about Sir Princess Petra’s Mission , the third book by awarded Canadian author Diane Mae Robinson. This work is included in the series titled The Pen Pieyu Adventures. The plot of this new story keeps the same high levels of the previous ones, even though here it is enriched with quirky and amazing twists that make the fairy tale much more gripping and fun.
The background is very similar because the main character of the tale is always little princess Petra, who, unlike what her father wants, desires to become a brave royal knight instead of a girl princess. In order to deter his daughter to undertake the career as a knight of the Kingdom of Pen Pieyu, the king writes silly rules on the royal book that an aspiring knight must perform to gain just the title of royal knight. This time, the rule is really silly because she, alone, should capture a car-panther in the unventured land of the Boogy Gobees. Although the contrary opinion of her father, the princess does the mission together with her steed, Snarl the dragon, and her friend Bograt, the bog witch. From this stage, the fairy tale takes a very fun and compelling twist capable to conquer any kind of reader.
From a side, there is Snarl, the dragon that, fearing of being eaten by a car-panther, loses the skill to emit fire streams from the mouth, from another side, there are the new friends Petra finds in the ominous and mysterious land of the Boogy Gobees. But it is just from the weakness of the dragon that the author builds a very compelling story with several turns of events that have also an underlying meaning, namely: never lose courage. “ Believe in yourself” is the chant Petra sings to encourage her friend to spit streams of fire and Believe in yourself is the message that the author turns to those parents who fear to not be good parents.
At last, thanks to an amazing capacity to twist the plot, the author conveys another important message, namely that honour and courage are worth more than a mission to become a knight. Furthermore, some stages of the book are superbly hilarious such as, for instance, the startled king who slips out of the throne and the always silent queen who faints before saying a word. In the story, the real winner is, seemingly, the princess, but in reality they are the real ethical values of life.
Especially in this troubled modern world and thanks to literary works like this, children can learn about courage, honesty, dignity and true friendship. But, above all, on the basis of the plot, children can learn about the importance of equality between males and females, men and women and among all people. The princess, indeed, does not want only to be a princess, but also a girl with a brain and a talent and a more engaging role.
This book is, hence, a very educational work to fight imposed rules and roles, prejudices and useless competition. The plot is also seasoned with proper images that describe the several chapters and with a vibrant writing style that, once again, confirms Diane Mae Robinson as the best author of children’s fairy tales .

Now, that is one funny story!
Sir Princess Petra is amazing. She is so nice and brave and good and trusting! My nephew can’t wait to hear me read more from the book!
To be honest I chose this book for him only because of the name. I was so intrigued how a princess can be a Sir and I am happy I bought it.
Every character in the book has it proper place. Every character has a reason for existence and a purpose. It helps me teach my little boy that no matter how different he feels sometimes this is not a bad thing. It helps him understand that girls can love balls and blue and still be girls and boys can love pink and drawing and still be boys and that there is nothing wrong with that. It definitely breaks the prejudices about gender differences and expectations. I love it for that. I love the fact that dragons and crocodiles can be good!
One of the things that makes this book so special for me is the way that it teaches children to believe in themselves and to help others:
“Petra forced her voice stronger, ”We’ll show them, Snarls. We’re not scared of a new adventure, right? And one just never knows what is real until one sees it for oneself.”
Thank you for writing this book!

More Than A Book Review

Sir Princess Petra's Mission (The Pen Pieyu Adventures) by Diane Mae Robinson is a light-hearted fantasy adventure tale for children. This is the third book in the Pen Pieyu Adventures series however the author provides a short informative synopsis of the first two books so that if you have not read them you can easily catch up.
In Sir Princess Petra's Mission her dad, the king sends her off on a mission which will test her and challenge her to make tough decisions.
The Pen Pieyu Adventures contains a kingdom of quirky characters and we revisit some of them in Petra’s Mission. I love that the book has lessons for young girls about self-confidence, friendships, and loyalty.
This chapter book contains charming full page black and white illustrations with each chapter.
I recommend all the books in the series - Sir Princess Petra and Sir Princess Petra's Talent.

Now, being that this is a series, one might wonder if you have to read the preceding books to be "in the know". In this case, totally unnecessary (but still recommended for the sheer enjoyment of it all!) because the author has taken care of you with a brief overview of both preceding adventures at the beginning of this installment.

It was great to see the familiar faces of Petra, Bograt, Snarls, and both of the royal Longstride's again, though the latter is still confoundedly set in making Petra into the princess they want her to be instead of embracing her uniqueness to its full potential. I love how Petra is not afraid to be who she really is and calls her parents out on their shenanigans time and again. Next up, Snarls! Yes, that lovable dragon with a heart of gold is back and though he may not be able to spit fire on command but he's working on it; in the mean time, he's utilizing his other many talents. Bograt is...well, Bograt. Here and there, onion chomping and wave surfing, not much gets her down and the secrets she keeps are too many to number; good thing she's on our side, right?

All in all, a wonderful adventure through the Kingdom of Pen Pieyu with a spunky group that I'd call friends any day of the week. They each march to their own drummer, leaving an impression you won't soon forget, but that' part of their charm. It reminds us that we can do anything we want to do, be anything we want to be...so long as we choose our words carefully. ^-^ Recommended read for Children's Fiction fans of all ages.

Author Diane Mae Robinson’s third entry in the Sir Princess Petra series of award-winning chapter books children rises to the same lovely level of delightfully imaginative storytelling as its predecessors.

. . . What saves the day, and Princess Petra’s knighthood, is her appeal to the best of human nature, unselfishness and faith that doing the right thing will lead to a good end, values that are abundant in the previous books.

Also abundant in all three books is fun, wonderful, silly fun. The book is delightful.

Grady Harp, Top 100 Amazon Reviewer

A story with a character that obviously has a future. The degree of imagination is matched by the terrific humor and sense of fun as always in Diane’s books. From the beginning chapter to the end this book is a treasure – and one that is highly recommended.
