Sing Me A Soap Opera is a contemporary romance novella by Susan Jean Ricci. It's been three years since Kendal Harper lost her beloved husband, Cam, to a boating accident, and she is yet to mend her broken heart. A successful author of fantasy and sci-fi thrillers, Kendal has to traverse uncharted territory when her publisher steers her into attempting to write a romance novel about falling in love with a coworker based on a personal experience. After a brief yet passionate fling with her boss at an insurance billing company, Kendal helps authorities catch a predator at a senior ladies' aerobics class. But it is while working as a manager at a medical facility that Kendal finally finds the love story she is looking for. The only problem is the story is no longer her priority.
If short and sweet love stories are your jam, Sing Me A Soap Opera is just the book you're looking for. Susan Jean Ricci puts an ingenious twist on contemporary romance by telling a humor-filled tale of a widowed author finding love in the most unexpected ways. As what seems to be the common factor in Ricci's books, this one also features vibrant characters with layers of depth and personality. Kendal feels like someone you may have met in real life who is fun to be around. Her inner monologues and dialogue are hysterically funny at times and made for some of the most entertaining scenes in the book for me. All in all, a must-read for romance aficionados.
