"Silhouette of the Sun" is the story of several generations of women—Constance, Anna and Page—and their lives and loves. Avery Davis has given us much more than a love story in her debut novel; she has woven together a tale of love and loss and the pursuit of independence. She has done a fantastic job of taking readers on a journey through the lives of three incredibly strong, but sometimes broken women, searching for that elusive thing that makes life…life. Time goes on and Constance becomes Anna who becomes Page, and each woman struggles to find herself and sacrifices something for the greater good.
Davis has woven a multi-layered tale that is not your average love story. This love story goes much deeper than “will they or won’t they?” while also touching on the struggles of battling love, disease and addiction. This story is wonderfully written, though at times it is slightly verbose. The characters, the setting and even the dialogue give the story an authentic air that is uncommon in stories such as this. Davis has done a great job on her first novel, telling a wonderful tale of strong and independent women making hard choices to make their lives worth the sacrifices given for them. Paige perhaps was my favorite woman in this book because she is strong and the life she wants to make for herself means so much because of what Anne and Constance gave up to make it all possible. The struggles she endure are visceral and she comes out a much stronger woman for it. Overall, "Silhouette of the Sun" was truly compelling and kept me involved from the first page until the last.
