Selena Flowers and the Phantom Tides by Ella English is the second installment in the Merblood Saga, following the adventures of Selena and her friends as they explore the mysteries of Madderly Bay and its supernatural undercurrents. In this novel, the story deepens with a blend of fantasy, drama, and mystery as Selena encounters new challenges and darker forces at play. Selena’s bravery and curiosity drive the story forward as she explores the hidden depths of her town and her connections to the mystical events. The dynamic between Selena and her friends, especially Chloe, adds warmth to the story, enriching the narrative with themes of friendship and loyalty.
Ella English’s narrative is nicely crafted, engaging readers with vivid descriptions and well-paced action. The story starts with a typical day turning into a supernatural event, setting the tone for a series of mystical and mysterious happenings that Selena must navigate. The author skillfully mixes everyday teenage issues with fantastical elements, creating a relatable yet exciting world. The characters are well-developed, each with distinct voices and personalities. The world-building is impressive, and blending the magical with the mundane makes the extraordinary encounters believable. Selena Flowers and the Phantom Tides is an enjoyable read, and I could follow the storyline without reading the first book. The book promises and delivers excitement and suspense, making it a must-read for fans of the series and newcomers looking for a young adult fantasy filled with adventure and mystery. Adults who enjoy fantasy stories with teen protagonists won’t want to miss this book.
