Seedtime and Harvest: Volume 1 by Derrick Davis is an inspirational poetry anthology. Davis’ Christian faith is on full display in every line of every poem of this collection. Fittingly, the first poem is titled Content with the contents of Christ. This book consists of sixteen thought-provoking poems. In these pages, Davis shares his testimony and encourages you to surrender your life in its entirety to the lordship of Jesus Christ. That is, to allow the way you view your identity, purpose, relationships, and money to be shaped by God’s word. Davis does not shy away from exposing and denouncing sinful thoughts and deeds in his own life. He acknowledges that Christians are not Christ, but that we are all called to live a life worthy of the gospel.
As a non-denominational Christian and poetry enthusiast, I thoroughly enjoyed Seedtime and Harvest by Derrick Davis. Every poem was filled with wisdom and grace. Although this masterpiece may be brushed aside by some as just for Christians, I highly recommend this book to everyone. I enjoyed how Davis made use of intriguing rhyme schemes without compromising his message. Some of the poems read like rap song lyrics. Additionally, I appreciated being challenged to become more intimate with God. Davis was not judging anyone for what state they find themselves in. Rather, I felt encouraged not to settle for unequally yoked romantic relationships or the vanities of life. Seeing that this is volume 1, I look forward to reading volume 2 of this series.
