Scream Vacation (The Raven Archives) by Dr. I. Seymour Youngblood is an intriguing story that is scary and funny at the same time. Carter is in Orlando with his twin sisters, Maren and Macee, for his spring break. His sisters, with their penchant for ghost hunting stories, will take him to the middle of nowhere. But then something intriguing happens and it turns out to be a scream vacation instead of a dream vacation. Carter finds himself believing in the supernatural, which he did not believe in earlier. It is the kind of story that is scary but at the same time not that scary for children.
A snippet from the story captures the essence of the plot: 'Stupid,' Carter thought. He did not believe in ghosts. He had watched every Saw, Paranormal Activity, and Friday the Thirteenth movie and did nothing but laugh. So, coming to a supposed haunted cabin site was especially painful.' It is the kind of story that caters to children who, at a certain age, are fascinated by ghost stories and books with a paranormal theme. Carter's character stands out in the book with his likable personality. The twin sisters Maren and Macee give good support to Carter's character.
Though the theme is scary, there is not too much violence in the story. It is a book that every child will find exciting and it can be termed as an enjoyable novel for kids who are into horror stories and paranormal tales that will thrill them.
