Jack Scott, not always a happy private detective, would prefer to be at home in the north of Wales making his miniature toy soldiers. However, Jack and his love interest/partner, Sian Laidlaw, are now located on Gibraltar and are faced with Jack's younger brother Tim being accused of a double murder. Meanwhile, Jack has come upon a dead body on Gibraltar and suspects Nick Schaill, one of power criminal Ronnie Schaill's sons. The Gibraltar policeman Luis Romero is not amused by Jack's interference in the local crime scene, and back in England, Detective Mike Haggard is actively pursuing hapless Tim Scott whom people refer to as "Lord Soft Lad." Tim's only crime is purchasing a yacht from Ronnie Schaill and not being able to pay for it. Dead bodies continue to appear, Jack's mother Eleanor is kidnapped, and the reader will be engrossed until the ending of this lively tale of murder and mayhem.

The author has written prior Jack Scott mysteries and refers to them in footnotes which will be an excellent source for the reader who'll want more. The story is well-edited, the characters, even the bad guys, are believable and the plot moves quickly to story's ending.

Rock to Death is a British mystery written by a British author. Readers who are unaccustomed to a different form of English from colloquial American English may struggle a bit, but the story is well worth reading. Rock to Death is a nice addition to any mystery fan's list of "must-reads."
