Remember Me: Remembering the Magic of Love by Mikael D. Lemieux explores the complexities and deep connections of bonds formed in childhood in contrast to overwhelming senses of responsibility. Elliott and Madeline, two exquisite dancers, were partnered together in childhood. The heavy demands of this award-winning pairing required a working relationship hard-won through joy, sorrow, compromise, and personal investment. As the young dance partners matured, so did their feelings for each other. Do you commit to what you worked hard to achieve as a formidable team, or do you risk it on a relationship with no guarantees, especially when you are already in another one? Remember Me forces readers to contemplate listening to the head or the heart.
Mikael D. Lemieux presents a tragic situation in which Elliott and Madeline must work through personal conflict and the expectations of others. Elliott and Madeline have forces outside their relationship that dynamically add to the complexity of their relationship. Their working relationship is difficult for their romantic partners to understand at times. When you grow up in a relationship for over a decade, there is very little hope of escaping other people’s input. There are difficult conversations and choices presented that entice the reader to become emotionally involved as the revelations unfold. The overwhelming obstacles in relationships presented in Remember Me are relevant in today’s goal-oriented career society where ambition and commitment conflict with personal happiness. Lemieux encourages readers to ponder on their choices and future decisions with the endearing and sometimes painful story of Elliot and Madeline--and to believe in true love. Overall, a great storyline.
