C. W. Allen’s Relatively Normal Secrets is a story about Tuesday and Zed and their seemingly normal family. Tuesday and her brother Zed had been secretly conducting meetings in their treehouse in hopes of discovering the secrets of their family. Whenever either of them asks about their relatives or their parents’ past, their parents always find a way to avoid answering their constant questions. One day, while Zed and Tuesday’s parents were away on a business trip, some unwelcomed guests with strange weapons force their way into their house and try to capture them. They were able to escape but found themselves lost in a new world far from their home. Zed and Tuesday are trying to find their way around this new world with the help of hidden messages taken from a series of misquoted nursery rhymes being secretly sent to them by someone. It seems their suspicions are true; their family is far from normal. Will they be able to make it through this sudden adventure and be reunited with their parents?
Relatively Normal Secrets by C.W. Allen is an engaging and moderately paced story that constantly kept me on my toes. Everything about this tale, especially the plot, was incredible. Each character had their own unique and amazing personality that set them apart from one another and left quite an impression on me. The character that stood out the most to me would be Zed because of how quick-witted and courageous he is for a child. Tuesday was also admirable, brave, and inquisitive. The fascinating and unique world of Falinnheim piqued my interest because of the intriguing objects mentioned throughout their stay there. This made the adventures of the two even more exciting and mysterious. I enjoyed their journey around the magical and unfamiliar world and with every page I flipped, I looked forward to how Zed and Tuesday would face another day in this place. I couldn’t help but be astounded by the unexpected revelations in the story; it had me hooked right to the very end. I look forward to reading the next book of Relatively Normal Secrets. Well done!
