Most everyone has dreams for their future; however, few have tactics to achieve that dream. Whether your dream is to finance your child’s education, pay off your home, go on a dream vacation, or retire early, it takes a strategy to reach that goal. Few of us realize how much money it will actually take to fulfill our dreams.
Our dream is early retirement. Following the formula in Reality Millionaire by Mike Peterson we began to lay out our master plan. One step in reaching our ambition is to realize that “Only you can take control of your finances.” By recording every penny we spent, we discovered several places where we could save money without living on beans and rice. A basic principle Peterson extols is “don’t count your chickens before they hatch.” That means paying cash for purchases! Why pay interest? This includes credit cards. Pay your balance at the end of each month. Personally I do not wait that long. I use my credit card for online purchases and then immediately write a check to the credit card company.
Investing your money may seem risky to some and complicated to almost all. Peterson skillfully explains types of investing and assists you in discovering your investing personality. My personal favorite section of the book is the retirement section. Retiring may cost a lot more than you realize. After all, why retire if you cannot have some fun? There is also a section on extra income sources.
Reality Millionaire by Mike Peterson is an easy to understand self-help book concerning finances. I found the information presented in an organized, concise manner. Peterson brings much experience and expertise to his book. I found his plan to be reasonable and commonsense. I believe everyone would benefit from reading Reality Millionaire.
