Phantom Ship in the Desert is Sherri Kukla's third book in the MotoMysteries series. I am always on the lookout for books for my children that teach character, adventure, and where the kids have to work through problems. Millie and Jeremiah were once foster children, but now they are part of a family. Hers is a family that is continually growing with more kids in need of help. Millie is worried about her friend with health problems, along with adjusting to new family members with new demands. Jeremiah doesn't want to be cranky like Millie, but his new older brother is never where he is supposed to be when work is being done. Jeremiah gets a surprise when a local man is missing and there's a clue to finding him. Millie gets a surprise as a gift from her foster brother. Together they have a mystery to solve with the promise of danger and adventure.
I found Phantom Ship in the Desert enticing as each chapter ends on a cliffhanger as it rotates between Jeremiah and Millie. Sherri Kukla uses her love of motorcycles and children to funnel this series into something kids will love. The author teaches children to work through emotions and problems in how her characters react to different situations. The suspense grabs kids' attention and the action will keep them reading until the end. I highly recommend this book for a wholesome, faith-based read that children will love as they follow the adventures of Jeremiah and Millie. The characters aren't perfect, but they strive to face their problems and weaknesses.
