“Know yourself” has been a mantra for philosophers, teachers, and anyone who is serious about the human condition since the dawn of civilization. But this simple, two-word statement is harder than its brevity suggests. In fact, it can be a lifetime challenge. I believe the quest to understand yourself and, by extension, others is paramount to the creation of a healthy, balanced life. I believe it can be critical to wealth and success, however differently we may define them. We all need tools in our quest for self-enlightenment and I can think of no tool, no book, or anything else that would be more valuable in this personal quest than Personality and Personhood: A Scriptural Guide to Understanding Both by Donna Silveira. I can’t believe it is so succinct because I got so much out of it. But this brevity is a good thing. Hopefully, it will encourage you to try it.
Despite Personality and Personhood: A Scriptural Guide to Understanding Both being a short read, I find it difficult to say how good it is or how much I got out of it without writing a lengthy college term paper. There was that much knowledge in it. I can tell you that it is very well written. It is very well researched, and very well organized. I think what you should consider most when thinking of reading this book is the fact that Donna Silveira is a life coach. I wrote a piece for a blog once where I suggested that modern education fails us because there isn't a course on how to live life. This book and its author are exactly what a young person needs as they prepare to become a truly functioning contributor to family and society. But you can gain a lot from this book at whatever age you find it.
