In "Perilous Shadows" by Nikki Chillemi Argus Nyle is the lead investigative reporter at radio station WSAN. When a body is discovered in the supply closet of the station, manager Jim Heaney assigns the story to Argus. But Kiera Devane beats him to it, writing her own story about the event. The two finally decide to work together on the investigation, and after working together for a while, find out they were both attracted not only to the story, but to each other. Will the person responsible for the murder finally come clean?
This is a great whodoneit mystery that will keep you guessing until the killer is revealed. It is set in the 1940’s era, after World War II. I really found myself enjoying the vivid descriptions of the era: the surroundings and lifestyle, the people and the fashions, the workings of a radio station and its employees, the food, and other unique details of that time in history. Ms. Chillemi created characters that are believable and likeable, and a story that is so well-written that you have a tough time trying to figure out who did it. The plot is pretty fast paced, which is wonderful because you want to keep reading to find out the suspense and mystery behind what is going on. I haven’t read the other books in this series, but the author has enough background that it is not difficult at all to really get into the story and follow it throughout. If you enjoy a quick reading suspense/mystery, "Perilous Shadows" by Nikki Chillemi is a must for you! It will be well worth your time to read it.
