So, you have trials and tribulations. You may feel like you are all alone and that even God has deserted you. Good news! You are not alone, and Karen Carroll has penned a great little book of encouragement called Pearls from Perplexities. For an oyster to produce a pearl, it must have some irritant enter its shell. God always uses irritants in our lives to produce pearls for His honor and glory. This book is written to encourage readers to look to Jesus to take our pain and turn it into pearls. Karen, as the wife of a pastor, has seen many people suffering because of different disasters and walked with them to the point of victory in Christ. She shares some of their stories to encourage us to keep on and to find our help and solace in Jesus.
Karen Carroll has authored Pearls from Perplexities to show that suffering serves a purpose. That purpose may not be seen until the final act, but at that point, the curtain is lifted to reveal how all those perplexities of life have been wondrously transformed into the most beautiful of pearls. Karen’s simple and down-to-earth sharing of examples of people who have gone through the fire and come out as a beautiful pearl is a delight to read. She simply shares the stories of those who have suffered. Karen gently reminds us that we are not alone in the battle with pain and suffering. Others have been where we are. Others have suffered and triumphed. Our goal should be to take suffering and allow God to transform it and us into a pearl of great price.
