It is a difficult time in the US and there is a growing sentiment that the government is protecting the rich that comprises only 1 per cent of the population against the 99 per cent who are steadily losing their jobs and homes. Young American couple, Andrew and Leela, is just starting out in their married life together. Andrew loses his corporate job at a time when Leela gets pregnant with their first child. They decide to take a break and stay with Leela's parents in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the Occupy Wall Street movement has spread. People are staging their protest against the US government's political and financial policies by camping out in the school ground. The animosity between Andrew and Leela's father makes it impossible for the couple to stay home. After staying in a hotel, Andrew visits the Occupy Albuquerque movement, and together with Leela, decides to join them. Idealistic and pushed against the wall, Andrew and Leela will be caught in events that will change their lives forever.

"Occupying Dissent" is a poignant story about a couple caught in the upheavals of the ongoing US recession. Robert Francis is a contemporary writer who is acutely aware of the present economic situation of the United States of America. His style is simple and straightforward. In trying to get his message across, he uses his story telling skills, and of this, he certainly has enough. By telling the story of Andrew and Leela, the issue becomes more interesting and it is a compelling read. This is a story of an average American couple whose lives take a drastic change because of the country's economic situation. Andrew's reaction to the situation is not unique. Thousands of Americans have joined the Occupy Wall Street movement in the hope that their government will listen to them. The protest has spread all over the country and one of their maxims is that the people should not be scared of their own government. Andrew and Leela's life is just one of these stories. There is a surprising number of Americans out there whose lives are never the same again.
