There are many books written on breast cancer, and Heather St. Aubin-Stout's Not My Mother's Journey is an exceptional and excellent addition that should go to the top of everyone's reading list. The author writes clearly, appealingly of her battle against breast cancer, the same disease that killed her mother in 1987. Heather was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 and endured surgery and radiation only to find that the cancer, which had low odds of returning, actually came back a year later. She went through the trauma of a mastectomy, months of chemotherapy, hair loss, and injections of a drug called Herceptin to combat genetic breast cancer tendencies. In her words, she shows her humor, her strengths and weaknesses, the strong support from her husband Gray and also from other cancer patients like herself. She is very open about her dismay at raising three normal teenage boys while fighting against the cancer that has invaded her body.

Not My Mother's Journey is easy to read, educating readers as Heather St. Aubin-Stout goes step by step through her battle against breast cancer. The book's plot is easy to follow, and the book itself has been edited well, as no grammar slips or spelling errors detract from the text. The author portrays herself, her family, her faith and her outreach to others convincingly, thus making this book a first rate addition to anyone's private library, as well as to public library collections where everyone may have access to the story it imparts.
