While we may think retirement is a normal stage in human life, Tom Wilson in Next Stage: In Your Retirement, Create the Life You Want shares that it is in fact a new phenomenon. From the 21st century, the average life span of human beings has been extended to 80 and 90 years and sometimes even more than 100 years. Humans in our present generation can, therefore, enjoy 10, 20, or even 30 years of life after working and raising children, and these are the modern retirement years. Tom Wilson addresses this period of human life in Next Stage. There are 10 chapters in the book, which address pertinent questions such as what do want to you do with your time, will you have enough money, who do you want to live with, how do you stay healthy, and who are you going to be?
Ten, twenty, or thirty years is a significant portion of a human life span, and isn’t it wonderful if one can live the way he wants to during these retirement years? This is why Next Stage by Tom Wilson is so relevant to today’s generation. Tom Wilson has clearly done his research as he has plenty of invaluable information in Next Stage for someone who is preparing for or in retirement. I really liked the presentation of the information as it is logical and easy to digest. I also liked the balanced and in-depth discussions, such as those on time, finances, relationships, health, and lifestyle. For those who are interested in making their next stage (retirement) a “success”, Next Stage is highly recommended.
