Christmas doesn’t have to be all the bustle and busyness of shopping and parties. A simple affair with those you love most can be very rewarding and enriching. Sisters Myra and Elmyra are content to bake and decorate, using what they have all around them. There are no extensive shopping excursions, no lively parties. They prepare quietly together, in spite of their differences: one likes to stay up all night, while the other likes to sleep at night. While sharing with their community -- the carolers on Christmas Eve and the family of the girl in the pink dress, among others --their Christmas is a shared experience full of love and joy, just as it should be.
Tonya L. Davis and Elisabeth A. R. Davis have created a beautiful, charming Christmas story in Myra and Elmyra’s Cozy Christmas. The story is told with care, using simple language to appeal to the young reader. Colorful illustrations complement the plot which develops nicely as the two sisters prepare for their Christmas celebration. The two main characters, Myra and Elmyra, are described with detail and compassion and the folktale-like story progresses to a satisfying and thoughtful conclusion. This is definitely a story to be shared every Christmas for readers of all ages. It gently reminds us of the importance of family and friends and the value of a truly simple Christmas. The warmth and beauty of the season shine through the pages of a carefully told and charmingly illustrated gem of a story. I loved it!
