Rosie's and Jia's mommies were the best of friends and they hadn't seen each other in five years. Rosie and Jia stood in the big airport watching their mommies hug each other. Rosie and her mommy had a long flight. It took them eighteen hours and three planes to reach China. Rosie was very excited to meet her new friend her mother had spoken about. Her new friend looked very different from her. Her skin was lighter, she had small eyes, and her hair was long, black, and straight. Even her dolly looked different. The girls soon become friends and young readers will learn about the sights and sounds of China as the book progresses. It is heartening to see the two girls accepting their cultural differences and enjoying their time together.

My Toilet is Bigger Than Yours by Jean Marie Hawthorn-DaCosta takes young readers on a wonderful journey to China and they will read about the Great Wall of China, The Forbidden City, Pearl Market, and the Hu Tong Lake. The story also introduces them to the squat toilet which is common in China. The illustrations are delightful and they bring the characters and story alive for young readers. It is a good story to introduce children to new places and will encourage them to travel and explore new lands, along with understanding the cultural differences and accepting the diversity that prevails. It is a good educational and informative story for children and will make a lovely book for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries.
