My Look: A Guide to Fashion & Style is a unique book for preteens. I would have loved this book when I was a preteen. Author Marlene Wallach includes quizzes to help girls find their style. This book discusses color, the affect it has on mood, what color you should wear, etc. Wallach continues by discussing size/fit. The author strongly suggests that clothes do not have to be expensive. I like the idea of shopping in your own clothes. Some of the other positives in this book are self esteem, smiles and hygiene. This book has positive messages.
There are not a lot of negatives but of course I have a few. I do object to the questions about dating. This book is for preteens. Girls should not be dating if they are preteen. Call me old fashion but they do not need to be encouraged in that area. Most of the girls in the photographs look older than preteens.
I ordered this book for my granddaughter who is interested in fashion and style. I look forward to sharing it with her. The book is part workbook. I believe we will be making a trip to a paint store to assist her in finding her colors.
