My Journey to Ephphatha: Discovering Ways God Guides Us to Our Purpose by Bonnie Jeane-Marie is an inspiring journey of faith, a tale of one woman’s walk with God and the discerning of His purpose in her life. Bonnie suffered a near death-experience as a child, and since then, the words of her grandmother have been engraved into her psyche — God spared her life for a purpose. But what was that purpose? At a very early age, Bonnie already had a strong connection with God, one that would continue through moments of joy and the vicissitudes of life. An encounter with a girl who was deaf and dumb led her into a new relationship at nine. But this girl disappeared suddenly and when she reappeared again in her life, Bonnie didn’t think it was a sheer coincidence. God’s hand was in it, but what did He want her to do? In this mesmerizing tale, the author shares her spiritual gifts with readers, unveiling her power of intuition and how her connection with God enhanced her relationships with others.
This is a book that looks at the ordinary events of one woman’s life through the lens of faith. I enjoyed the family dynamics in the home of the protagonist. From the beginning of the narrative the reader gets a strong sense of the family’s gift of hospitality when the mother asks Bonnie to give cold water to the young girl who doesn’t talk. One immediately understands that there is a family tradition built on Christian values, and an openness of spirit that eventually guides the young protagonist to be more receptive to the promptings of the Spirit and to cultivate these values. My Journey to Ephphatha: Discovering Ways God Guides Us to Our Purpose illustrates the truth that God has mysterious ways of revealing Himself to us and that He equips us with the tools to discern His purpose in our lives. As I read Bonnie Jeane-Marie’s story, I had a deeper personal understanding of how God has used simple situations and encounters to speak to me. It is a refreshing and inspiring story.
