My Favorite Season is Spring is a delightful children's book written by Patrice Wilkerson and illustrated by Brooke Beaver. When the alarm goes off in the morning, young Susie climbs out of bed. As today is a school day, Susie has breakfast and gets dressed. As soon as she arrives at school, she is greeted by her teacher who has written the names of the four seasons on the board. The teacher asks the students which season is their favorite and why it is their favorite season. Susie answers that Spring is the best because the air is fresh, the flowers are blooming, and you can play or lie on the grass while watching clouds. Susie also loves to chase butterflies and listen to birds sing through the window about the beautiful songs of Spring.
It is always interesting to see perspectives of the seasons around the world. All of Susie's favorite things sound like bliss and I can easily understand why anyone would love such a beautiful season the closer they live to the equator. Children see beauty in almost everything around them, and the things listed such as clouds, birds, butterflies, and flowers are often taken for granted by adults. The wondrous energy coming from Susie in her excitement is expressed so well in My Favorite Season is Spring. Patrice Wilkerson's tale, accompanied by the peaceful and joyous illustrations by Brooke Beaver, creates the perfect story for any young reader between 5 and 12 years.
