In Drew Davis' Murder On The Bayou: A Tom Hill Novel, the central figure Tom Hill is a man with distinctly different sides. A prominent mob boss doing his best to keep his territory working smoothly under his benevolent control on one hand, and on the other a doting father trying to be his version of the perfect father to his son. Sensing a growing rift between himself and Eric, he takes his son on a trip as an opportunity for the two of them to bond while he gets some business done on the side. It seems that wherever he goes trouble follows him around, with murder on the cards and betrayal brewing within his ranks.
Drew Davis delivers an interesting crime and mystery combination with Murder On The Bayou. Once l got past the dark humor and the flowery language I couldn't help but be impressed with the depth of the story. It requires an effort to intertwine two different plots into one fluent storyline but Davis does this with ease. With gangsters and back-alley deals giving you a first-hand feel of the underworld, there's no way you can avoid getting caught up in the excitement this book has to offer. There were times while reading the book that I felt like too much was going on all at once but, in retrospect, I have to admit it gives the book a degree of authenticity one can only get from thorough background research. Murder On The Bayou is an excellent piece of work.
