Emma is off again on another adventure. Even after a foot injury from the last adventure, she’s game to try again. Each adventure is full of wonder and excitement and sometimes something (or someone) new to bring home. Richard Spinney continues Emma’s story in More Adventures of Emma, and, like the first book, The Adventures of Emma, these stories won’t disappoint. Emma knows her way home (well, most of the time) and she’s good at finding lost, injured, or abandoned creatures. One lost creature is a little boy who can barely speak. Emma also manages to be featured in the local newspaper, like the time she observed the Governor accompanied by four bodyguards, also walking around on an adventure just like Emma. Readers will be instantly enchanted by this special dog and her dog brothers.
Richard Spinney’s book, More Adventures of Emma, is sweet, endearing, and heartwarming. Anyone who loves a good dog story will love reading about Emma’s continuing adventures. Told in the first person narrative from Emma’s point of view, the plot picks up where the first book finished, with the removal of the sharp quills from Emma’s paw. Emma shares not only her story but also the stories of those she meets on her outings and adventures. She listens intently to human conversations and learns a lot about the people she meets. Some of the people are not very friendly and are downright dangerous, like the men lurking around the abandoned cabin in the woods, and whoever set the inhumane trap that caught Emma’s leg in a vice grip. If you enjoyed Emma’s first book, you’ll love this one even more.
