Midnight Marauder and the President of the United States: A Series of Western Novels Featuring the Adventures of John Crudder by Roy Clinton is a gripping story with powerful historical hints and strong social and political commentaries. The president needs the help of the Midnight Marauder to root out the scumbags responsible for the financial crisis that is hitting the country this hard. John Crudder feels honored to do the president’s bidding, a mission that takes him back to his childhood city of New York and to Washington DC. It just so happens that the enemies of the state are John’s personal enemies and he can’t stand the fact that they have also hurt the one man he loves with utmost loyalty.
Roy Clinton blends adventure and a political thriller, creates characters that are bold, and develops themes that are both exciting and relevant. The novel feels real, a work that is well-researched and featuring political and social commentaries that provoke in readers a reflection on the reality of contemporary America. The narrative voice is strong and it combines both humor and suspense to maintain readers' interest. The characters are compelling, elaborately developed with rich backgrounds. Midnight Marauder and the President of the United States is beautifully written. The story opens with the unusual meeting between President Ulysses S. Grant and John, a meeting in which the president expresses concerns about the collapse of one of the banks that financed the railroads. It makes for a powerful premise to have the president personally ask for someone's services. The dialogues and the narration are top-notch and the plot makes it difficult to put this book down.
