Meet Middle Pip, the third out of five kids, whose actual name is Menachem Pinchas in Middle Pip gets the Evil Eye: Middle Pip, Volume 1 by Shaul Behr. MP shares the bedroom with his fourteen-year old brother, Avner, and they spend a lot of time together. While shopping with Ima one day, he dives to avoid a pinch from a lady who is talking to Ima and his elbow catches a row of cans that fall over him. He reaches home in a bad mood and his brother Avner tells him that when someone puts the Evil Eye bad things happen. MP asks his brother how he can protect himself from an Evil Eye. Does MP believe he has the Evil Eye? How does Avner help his brother to protect himself from the Evil Eye?

The story is set against the backdrop of Jewish religion and culture and it is laced with humor along with its spiritual vibes. It is informative to read how Zaidy, their grandfather, explains to MP what exactly an Evil Eye means. The story introduces young readers to Jewish tradition, culture, and beliefs in a very entertaining and interesting way. The illustrations are funny and charming and they make the story even more appealing. It is important to have illustrations in a children's story book because the images will give more clarity to the concept and make the scenes vivid to them while reading. Children will get accustomed to Yiddish words like ayn tova, fargin, ayn hora and more after reading this book and they will also learn some good values and understand the concept of the Evil Eye.
